Study in Brazil!

Come and study for free at UFU - Universidade Federal de Uberlândia. Besides offering access to high quality education, UFU is awarding 51 scholarhips for 2024 Master’s and Doctoral students from all over the world. 


UFU is a public, federal, tuition-free Brazilian university located in the state of Minas Gerais, member of the International Cooperation Group of Brazilian Universities – GCUB. As such UFU has joined GCUB’s International Mobility Program, promoted in association with other Brazilian universities and national and international agencies. UFU is offering 51 scholarships for international students to develop their Master or PhD studies starting January 2024 under the GCUB call available at: https://www.gcub.org.br/category/programas/em-andamento/


The scholarships

The scholarships will cover on-site Master’s and Doctoral degree programs at one of UFU sites, scheduled to begin in 2024, according to the information available on the Table of Master’s and Doctoral Degrees in Brazilian Universities at GCUB. Master’s programs should be completed up to 24 months after the starting date of the study program and Doctoral programs must be completed up to 48 months after the starting date. Expansions may be possible according to the availability, evaluation strategies and internal regulations of each program. Scholarships, however, are limited to 24 or 48 months are not renewable nor expandable. Scholarhips are granted in Brazilian currency by Fundação do Amparo à Pesquisa do Estado de Minas Gerais – FAPEMIG, by the Coordenação de Aperfeiçoamento de Pessoal de Nível Superior – CAPES or by the Universidade Federal de Uberlândia and are equivalent to R$ 2.100,00 for Master students and R$ 3.100,00 for Doctoral students. It is estimated a student can live in Uberlândia with monthly expenses under R$ 2.000,00, depending on the living arrangements he/she chooses.

 

Who may apply?

Students from the 5 continents interested in developing their graduate studies at UFU. Candidates may apply directly through GCUB’s site using the online form: http://www.gcub.org.br/bsp/application-form.html. Dates, registration, selection criteria and procedures are defined in the call and all contact should be done only through GCUB, as indicated in the GCUB-Mob call. Applications for scholarships are free, personal, non-transferable and must be completed online and can submitted in Portuguese, English or Spanish.

 

Language Proficiency 

Most programs at UFU will accept students fluent in Portuguese, Spanish or English, but it is mandatory students observe the specific language requirements of the Graduate Programs for which they apply. The information can be found in the Table of Master’s and Doctoral Degrees in Brazilian Universities published by GCUB.  Prior to the defense of the dissertation or thesis, all scholarship holders must attest, at least, an intermediate level of Portuguese, through a certification at the discretion of the university.


Student benefits

During studies in Brazil, each scholarship holder will receive the following benefits: a. Exemption of tuition and monthly or annual academic fees, related to the costs of the graduate program at the host university, for which the scholarship holder is selected. b. Scholarship: standardized monthly stipends throughout the regular study period, for up to a maximum of 24 months for Master’s and up to 48 for Doctoral students; c. Access to university restaurants, if any, under the same conditions as any other student at the host university; d. Access to classes, classrooms, libraries, laboratories, and other university services under the same conditions as any other student at the host university; e. Free Portuguese classes or cultural activities; f. Buddy assistance to help students in their adaptation process.

 

Student’s responsibility

The search and selection of medical insurance is the responsibility of each beneficiary. GCUB and UFU refrain from suggesting any particular insurance company. The beneficiary must ensure that the insurance covers all the aspects described in the call. The insurance must be contracted prior to the student’s arrival in Brazil and must be renewed yearly for as long as he/she stays in the country. Travel and housing expenses are the student’s sole responsibility. UFU does not offer any kind of travel or housing assistance.
